Grooming your dog is important no matter what it’s coat type. Even them nakey nakey ones need to grooming of some type. Also some coat types shed in a more problematic way to others, they all vary dramatically, but ALL require grooming.

The assumption that short haired dogs don’t need as much grooming is probably one of the biggest lies that is told and presumed amongst dog owners. In fact as a long haired dog owner I’d go as far to say that my dog moults less than many short haired dogs.

Grooming Tools

So what grooming tools are essential?

Well some of this will depend on your dogs coat type.

These double sided brushes are good for introducing a puppy to grooming. They can also be used for nearly all dog coats to some effect

These scissor type nail clippers are my preferred nail clipper choice. I rarely have to clip my dogs nails but having a pair is important. If a nail splits you may need to trim the excess off.

Blunt ended scissors are a lifesaver. They’re ideal for trimming fur around paws, eyes, ears and more. The blunt end will help prevent stabbing the animal.
Trimming fur between long haired dogs toes is essential.
